Be aware of your surroundings at all times. If you are in danger or need help, start calling for help immediately. Better safe than sorry. Wave towels or clothing at passing boaters to get their attention.

If you see another boater in trouble, offer whatever assistance you can — but do not put either crew or boat in jeopardy. If you cannot help the boat in distress, at least stand-by until assistance does arrive.
