A severe thunderstorm, and most likely a tornado, caused extensive damage to numerous homes, barns and other property in northern Russell County just after 1:00 p.m. Wednesday.  Russell County Emergency Management Director H.M. Bottom told WJRS NEWS that despite some homes being destroyed and many receiving extensive damage, no serious injuries have been reported.  The storm also downed utility poles and power lines knocking out electrical and phone service to several areas.
