LakeFest is back in Jamestown for 2015
Good news Russell County; we will be having a Lakefest this year!
Lakefest committee head Marcelene Taylor said that the nearly half a century old tradition will make a reappearance this year after being canceled last year due to budgetary constraints.
Instead of four days the event will be two days, but they promise to pack in nearly as much activity as they have over the traditional four days that the event usually runs over.
“We’re going to try to put all of our activities in a couple of days this year, because funds are tight,” Taylor said. A complete schedule is yet to be worked out, but will kickoff early on Friday, July 3 and yes, it will conclude Saturday night, July 4th with fireworks!
“It just wouldn’t be a fourth of July without fireworks,” Taylor said. “It just isn’t the same. We’ve had to not have them in the past because of not having enough rain but hopefully we will be okay this year.”
The beauty pageants, talent show, pet show, car and tractor show, kids games, the 10 kilometer run, will all be happening
This year vendor space is free, Taylor said. She urges anyone interested in setting up in a space to get in contact with her. There are already a number of food vendors, but they would really like to have some arts and crafts vendors or other merchandise vendors who would be interested in setting up for the two days at no cost.
The main event this year will be local country music singer Terry Wariner. He will perform to close out the events Saturday night just prior to the fireworks show.
