Friends Of Wolf Creek – Community News

Friends of Wolf Creek is non-profit organization that assists the U.S. Fish & Wildlife Services, Wolf Creek National Fish Hatchery in meeting its environmental and educational mission.  Wolf Creek National Fish Hatchery is one of the most recently constructed hatcheries in the federal hatchery system.  This system currently produces approximately 1,000,000 rainbow, brown and brook trout weighing 275 pounds annually.    Friends of Wolf Creek offers events and programs that the entire family can enjoy as well as free fishing events for children, veterans, seniors and special needs children.

The Friends group is well known for the Catch a Rainbow Fishing Derby held each year at the Wolf Creek National Fish Hatchery.   Although, this event which brings in well over a thousand participants, isn’t the only event that they host.  The Reaching for the Rainbows Special Needs Kids Fishing Derby and Catch a Smile Senior Fishing Derby is two other derbies that the friends group host annually.

In addition to the derbies, Friends of Wolf Creek host clinics, monthly nature workshops as well as managing the gift shop inside the Visitor/Environmental Education Center.  The Visitor Center at the hatchery welcomes an average of 1,000 visitors per week from all over the country.  The Gift Shop sales along with donations help Friends of Wolf Creek fulfill their mission.

As their events continue to grow, they are seeking members to join in this amazing community organization.  They hold monthly meetings & produce quarterly newsletters.  If you would like to volunteer you can contact Jeff Powers, President @270-585-2702 or Administrative Assistant, Shevawn Foley at 270-343-3797.
