Trek at Yahoo Falls set for Saturday, Nov. 10

As we've discussed in a couple of other places, we're going to be doing another trek to the scenic wonder of Yahoo Falls in McCreary County this Saturday. Anyone is welcome to join us. Depending on who shows, it could be a very small group or more.

We will meet first at 11 am EST at Reno's in Burnside. Look for me in 4-door silver Aurora with a red folding chair sitting beside it. We'll leave from there shortly after. The trip is a 25 mile drive to the Yahoo Falls scenic area. If you wish you can drive directly there, where we should arrive around 11:30 am EST.

To drive to Yahoo Falls, from Burnside go south on US-27. As soon as you arrive at Whitley City there is a flashing yellow light intersection. Turn right there (west) onto KY-700. Drive out that road about 5 miles until you see the sign to turn right to Yahoo Falls. Follow that gravel road down into the gorge. You'll eventually wind up at the parking lot.

The trek is relatively short, but will require some ups and downs, stepping over rocks in nearly dry streams, some slick areas where it's easy to fall unless you are careful, and of course going to the bottom of the 200 foot cliff .. and back up. There'll also be some bending and ducking on the lower hidden trail. I'll be taking it very easy and slow, especially on the ascents. Altogether we'll probably spend about two hours there.

You can see some of the photos from our October trip in the other threads. You don't have to RSVP, but if you let me know that you're coming we'll know to wait and/or watch for you.

PS: Kids 8 and over will love it -- guaranteed. Younger kids will need careful watching as the trail often goes within feet of sheer vertical drops.

I sort of need to know if anyone is planning to come on Saturday, as I'm not sure the original ones I was going with will be there. I'm willing to go if anyone wants, but not particularly interested in driving over there and finding myself alone because I was recently there. :)

Wish I could. I'll be in Cleveland. Thanks so much for offering everyone the opportunity!

If you get a hankering in the spring to go, I might be interested;)

Most definately will be there. But if you would honestly rather not go I think my husband & I can manage the trip alone. If we get lost, we will eventually find our way out. That's what we do, Explore Ky.

Nope, I'll be there. Will bring at least one more person along. Hopefully some others will decide to go for it -- the weather looks perfect, around 60, and the leaves still have color but there will be a few of them off the trees so they'll look great on the ground and might make it easier to see the cliffs.

Well, by the looks of the home page picture all you hikers had a great day to trek to Yahoo Falls. I going to make it there one of these days. Is it an easy trail to follow? I wouldn't want to get myself lost!:D

Yes, the basic trail is quite easy. As you begin it, there's a large map of the trail system, which will give you an idea of the general plan. Mostly you can just wander around and discover things and it would be difficult to get lost.

Thank you cumberline for the day out. We missed the group @ falls so we hit the trails alone. Went way to far past the Natural Arch area, but the scenery was great. We are looking forward to going back again soon & going down to stream bed. Now that we have seen the Ridge Tops. A great trip for everyone, just don't go past the arch to far.

Sat Nov 10 trek

Here are a couple of pix from the lower "hidden" trail, which goes along and through a stream bed that wraps under and around a bunch of house-sized boulders. In the first picture, the trail goes through those rocks.
