Dogslaughter Falls

Saw a picture of "Dogslaughter Falls", apparently in McCreary County, hanging in my doctor's waiting room today. Anybody know where this is, how to get there, whether it is on publicly-accessible land? It looks like somewhere I'd like to go...

I remember SFW posting about them recently but I can't remember if he gave any directions.

Ths Trail is moderate, however it requires sure footing while walking. There are some very steep terrain to cover at the end where the trail meets the Sheltowee on the banks of the Cumberland River. Dog Slaughter is about 1.5 miles into the trail and always has a fall, even though the winter snow makes the best pics. Two access points to the trail. One from a fireroad just past the rangers station on 90. The other from the Sheltowee end of the trail. This trail on the east bank of the river down stream from Cumberland Falls.

falls

You can access the trail from the beach below the falls also. Over the big boulder and onto the trail. Another nice place to hike is on the west side of the river...Eagle Falls. Go across the bridge and there is a parking area on your right.

Dog Slaughter Falls IS on the Whitley Co. of the river, in the Daniel Boone Forest. There is NO ranger sation on Ky. 90, there is an old ranger fire tower off the first road to the left, as you go towards Corbin, after you leave the park eatrance, going east, You have to park at the gate there as the old road is closed too vehicles. Or drive about 6 miles east on Ky 90,there is a road that turns left, before you leave the D.B. Forest. Hope this helps.;)

Thanks for the info everyone. The print I saw of the falls really was labeled McCreary Co., but if it's on the east side of the river, that's definitely Whitley Co.

I'm surprised that I've never seen it. I've done quite a bit of hiking around the falls, and been to Eagle Falls (which I highly recommend, though it's a crowded trial) many times.

I'm still a bit confused though - does Dogslaughter Falls have its own trailhead, or do you have to hike in on the Sheltowee Trace and then turn off on a side trial?

Easy to find on from the water......wait til water's a bit high...say 730 or so. (could be a long wait) Jump on a sea doo and head up the river till you hit a rock...look at your gps and your there. Never got to see the falls itself, but its a Great GROUP trip. Flat water. Fuel at Buck Creek and London...Not to mention the ice cream!!! Great scenery and a totally different LC experience. Last run for me was in 04.

We hiked this one yesterday. Small, but very scenic waterfall. We hiked down from cumberland falls along the sheltowee trace and then up the 1/4 mile to the falls, then explored some of the other trails in the area before heading back out the same way we came in.
It made for a good weekend exploring the 'off the water' side of coming to the lake.
