Deputies investigate boating accident in Pulaski County

An Ohio man was killed and his wife was injured in a boating accident Saturday night near Burnside Marina on Lake Cumberland in Pulaski County, state Department of Fish and Wildlife Resources officials said.

The couple were identified as David L. Zuver, 58, of Archbold, Ohio, and Cheryl Zuver.

Officials said the Zuvers were renting a houseboat with a friend.

About 7:30 p.m. Saturday, the couple’s friend was driving the boat while the Zuvers stood on the shoreline to tie it up at a cove, officials said witnesses reported.

The boat hit Cheryl Zuver and injured her ankle and foot. When her husband rushed to her aid, he was hit by the boat and died of blunt force trauma to the chest.

Rick Thomas, senior vice president of operations for the marina, said the marina’s staff was alerted about the accident with a call from a woman driving the boat.

The accident, he said, took place in a cove 3 to 4 miles from the marina in the Pitman Creek area.
