Dallas company buys Lake Cumberland marina
A Dallas company has bought State Dock on Lake Cumberland.
Suntex Marinas announced the purchase of State Dock, in Russell County, in a news release Thursday.
The company and Bill Jasper, former president of State Dock, did not disclose the price.
Jasper said the purchase will include Wolf Creek Marina, but the companies have not closed that part of the deal.
Jasper said State Dock has more than 60 rental houseboats, the most of any of the nine marinas now operating on the giant lake, a key tourism destination in southern Kentucky.
The lake ranks fourth in the nation in the number of visitor hours among 383 that the Army Corps of Engineers controls or maintains, Suntex said in a news release.
The corps is evaluating a proposal for a 10th marina on the lake, at Rowena in Russell County.
Suntex said in the news release that it plans investments in infrastructure, amenities and boats at State Dock.
The company said it operates 25 marinas in Florida, Virginia, New Jersey, New York, Massachusetts, Maryland, Georgia, Iowa, Texas, Arkansas and on the Caribbean island of Saint Maarten. State Dock is its first in Kentucky.
