Boating Accident on Lake Cumberland

A boating accident near Beaver & Otter Creeks on Lake Cumberland resulted in serious injuries a fire  and two men being airlifted.

The Collision occurred around 10:30 Saturday evening when a Pontoon being occupied by James Pettey, his wife Michelle, their daughter Shelbie and friends were struck in the rear  by a  25’ Cobalt Boat being operated by Benjamin Dossey of Mt. Washington.

James Pettey who was on board the pontoon as well as Dossey and  passenger, Chris Armstrong of Shepherdsville, was ejected into the water on impact.  Both of these men were airlifted to the U.K. Medical Center. Christy Carter, age 23 of Fairdale was taken to Russell County Hospital by ambulance. 

James Pettey’s daughter Michelle has spoken with Lake Cumberland.Com to report that her father has a broken femur and fibula in his right leg.  So far, he has had surgery to put a rod in the right leg and will be undergoing more treatment to repair damage to his left knee.   

The cause of the accident has not been determined.
