3 more Ky. parks receive ‘StormReady’ designation

The Kentucky Parks Department says three more state parks have been given the National Weather Service's "StormReady" designation.

The state says a total of eight Kentucky parks have worked with the weather service to prepare for severe weather.

The parks added to the list are Carter Caves State Resort Park, Greenbo Lake State Resort Park and Grayson Lake State Resort Park. Parks already designated are Dale Hollow, Lake Cumberland, Jenny Wiley, Buckhorn Lake and Natural Bridge state resort parks.

By having the "StormReady" designation, a park can monitor weather, has a trained staff, can communicate weather warnings to guests and employees and is able to provide shelter. The park also has to be able to communicate with state and local emergency management offices for assistance.
